Project in Cambodia
During a short trip to Cambodia in April 2013 I became aware of the COLT orphanage with a attached school in Phnom Penh. A friend, who has lived several years in Cambodia and is on the board of the nonprofit organization, has enabled me to see the place and I got a extensive and deep impression on their dedication and work in detail. Never before have I had such a detailed insight on the use of donated funds. Each $ was made me transparent.
Upon my return we decided to support this great facility for children.

Poverty in Cambodia is frightening. As a result of disease and poor living conditions there are many orphans. Many parents can not take care of their children because they have to live each day on less than a dollar. Child maltreatment and abuse are often the result of this need. Therefore, many children living outside their parents' homes. In the capital Phnom Penh alone there are hundreds of street children. COLT has set itself the target to include such street children in her orphanage and to give these children protection, good education, daily care and supervision until they are old enough to provide for their own subsistence..
COLT stands for "Cambodian Organization for Living and Training" and was founded in 2005. Currently 29 children are housed in the orphanage and in the connected school about 300 children are educated ongoing. It is run by a Dutch couple and continuously has volunteers which teach various fields and they also maintain the establishment.
To ensure the survival of the children's home and school COLT needs each year donations that come exclusively from Germany and the Netherlands. Also we have decided to support this facility with a four-digit € amount which is used solely for educational purposes.
In addition, Michael has decided to be there working supportive for two months as a volunteer in September - October 2013. All children receive in their own affiliated school computer classes, which is not at all self-evident in Cambodia at state schools. My objective was to standardize the existing teaching content and to make it more sophisticated. For this, I introduced the ICDL (International Computer Driver License) program which significantly improves the teaching content and the children allows to get a certified complete the training program which facilitates their career.
My volunteer impressions I have summarized in a small photo journal. For anyone interested here is the link to the Photo Gallery
